Achari Chili Tofu Roll

Achari chili tofu roll is a yummy veggie roll also known as a kati roll. Kati roll is popular snack item in northern part of India especially in Kolkata. This recipe is prepared using colorful bell peppers, onion, tofu which is flavored with achari masala and spices. The tangy filing rolled in a wheat flat bread (roti) makes it a perfect dish.  For this recipe I have used homemade Indian flat bread or roti but you can also use store bought Tortillas for roll. You can customize the recipe by changing the filling content according to your taste. You could add grilled fish, chicken and paneer instead of tofu as part of the filling. Achari chili tofu roll is supper easy and it can be packed for kids or adult lunch boxes. It’s a very good recipe for travel, you can pack it and carry and eat on the go.

Ingredients
For Achari Chili Tofu

Instructions
  1. Cut the regular Tofu pack into half of its size(portion). Squeeze all the water from tofu and place it on paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Cut the tofu lengthwise for of about 2 inch size. Keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan or kadhai at medium heat. Once oil is hot, add 1/4 tsp punch phoran. (To make panch phoran: 1/4 tsp cumin seeds, 1/4 tsp Nigella seed(Kalonji seeds), 1/8 tsp methi seeds, 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp fennel seeds. Mix it well.) Wait till all spices gets crackles. Add onion, ginger-garlic paste and little salt into oil. Saute it till onion gets translucent. Add cut bell peppers and saute it till bell peppers gets slightly brown.
  2. Add coriander-cumin powder, turmeric powder, achari masala, chili flacks and saute it for 1 minutes.
  3. Add cut tofu and lime juice, mix it very gently so that tofu does not get crushed, When done, turn off the heat.
  4. Transfer the filling into a bowl.
  5. Take some homemade roti. You can follow the roti recipe bellow or you can use store bought Tortillas for this recipe.
  6. Take one roti on wooden surface, apply some coriander & mint chutney. Place some baby spinach, then achari chili tofu filling on it. To make the roll, first fold from bottom.
  7. Then fold the roti from right and left side on top of each other to make a roll.
  8. Pack the roll into aluminium foil around it. Make rest of the rolls following the same process.
  9. Achari chili tofu is ready to be served.
  10. Pack it for adult or kids lunch boxes or for your travel.
