Green Moong Dal Fry

There are variety of pulses (dal) available and green whole moong dal is very healthy. The recipe is prepared mainly using green moong dal and fried with spices.This recipe tastes really good compared to conventional yellow dal, however you can’t have it everyday.

  1. Clean the moong dal and soak it over night. In a pressure cooker, add 4 cup water, soaked moong dal, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and salt. Cook for 3 whistle or until dal gets tender. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil & ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, when it starts crackles, add green chili, garlic, ginger, hing and curry leaves and saute until slightly golden color. Add onion, little salt and saute till golden color.
  3. When onion gets golden color, add tomatoes and saute until tomato gets mushy.
  4. Add all spices listed in a ingredients list( garam masala, turmeric powder, cumin-coriander powder). Saute it for 2 minutes.
  5. Add boiled moong dal and 1 cup water in to it. If dal is thick add more water to make liquid consistency. Cook for 3 minutes with lid on. Once it done, turn off the heat. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  6. Healthy green moong dal fry is ready to be served. Enjoy with hot rice or roti.
