Palak Paneer

Palak (Spinach) paneer is one of the popular paneer delicacy generally served in restaurants in India. The recipe is very simple to prepare and tastes awesome. Kids generally love this recipe as it is not very spicy.

  1. Clean spinach with running water and blanch it in a boiling water for 45 secs. Drain it and let it cool. Once it has cool down grind it and make a puree. Keep it aside.
  2. Here are the ingredients for the palak paneer. Remove the corn kernels using knife. Boil the corn with little salt till corn gets tender. Remove from the hot water and grind it and make a paste. Keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a kadahi or deep pan. Add cumin seeds once it gets brownish color, add all whole spices listed in the ingredient list. Saute it until aromatic, add onion, little salt and ginger garlic paste in to it. Saute at medium heat until onion gets golden brown.
  4. Once onion gets brownish color, add chopped tomato and saute till tomato gets mushy.
  5. Add coriander & cumin powder, turmeric powder, black pepper powder and saute for 3 minutes.
  6. Add corn paste and saute it for 2 more minutes.
  7. Add spinach puree, stir it and let it cook at low to medium heat for 10 minutes with open lid so that it retains the green color of spinach.
  8. Add 1 tsp oil in a non-stick pan, roast the paneer till light brown from all sides. In a 1/2 cup of water add roasted paneer so that it gets soft. Leave it for at least 10 minutes.
  9. Add paneer, garam masala powder and nutmeg powder to the spinach gravy. Saute it for 2 minutes. If the gravy looks dry add about 1/2 cup of water and let it boil, once it start boiling, turn off the heat.
  10. Palak paneer with corn is ready to be served. Garnish with grated paneer.
  11. Enjoy with roti, paratha or rice.
